Another EU country calls for a ban on Brazilian beef

Finland, the EU member country that holds the European Union’s rotating chairmanship, called for a ban on Brazilian beef due to the devastation caused by fires in the Amazon rainforest, informs Reuters. The appeal was made by the country's Minister of Finance.
“Finance Minister Mika Lintila condemns the destruction of Amazon rainforests and suggests that the EU and Finland should urgently review the possibility of banning Brazilian beef imports,” Finland’s finance ministry said in a statement.
By now, France and Ireland have made the same request to the European Commission. A ban on Brazilian beef could put on hold the EU-Mercosur trade deal, signed at the end of June this year after two decades of negotiations.
