Brazilian cattle herd vaccinated 98.50% against foot-and-mouth disease

The second phase of the vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease, carried out in November, immunized 94.87 million cattle and buffaloes in the country from the 96.31 million forecast, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).

Brazilian cattle herd vaccinated 98.50% against foot-and-mouth disease

MAPA announced that the vaccination coverage reached 98.50%. Most of the states vaccinated animals aged up to 24 months. The exceptions were Acre, Amapá, Espírito Santo and Paraná, which vaccinated animals of all ages, according to data reported by the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Inputs.

In the stage of November 2018 the last 5 ml vaccine was used. From this year, in the vaccination stages, a new dose of 2 ml bivalent (for two types of virus) will be used. The campaigns will begin on March 15 in Amazonas, concentrated in the months of May (1st stage) and November (2nd stage) in most of the federative units.
