Brazilian poultry exports are up by 64%
Brazilian poultry exports have increased by 64% in June compared to the same month last year. According to Associacao Brasileira de Proteina Animal (ABPA), 386,200 tonnes of poultry were shipped abroad last month, a higher volume compared to 235,400 tonnes registered last year in June. In terms of revenues, there was an increase of 76.6%, with a total balance of $639.6 million in the sixth month of this year, against $362.2 million carried out in June 2018.
For the semester, the sectoral performance of exports reached a high of 11.4%, with 2,045,000 tonnes exported in 2019, against 1,836,000 of tonnes shipped last year. In the first six months of this year, the value of Brazilian poultry exports reached $3.406 billion (+14.9%), against $2.964 billion in 2018.
"There was an increase in the purchases of almost all major importers, which generated a positive current of exports. The international context of high demand for protein is felt in several markets", commented Francisco Turra, president of ABPA.
China and Europe have been the most lucrative markets for the Brazilian poultry exporters this year due to the ASF situation in Asia and a shift in consumption in the EU.
