Bulgaria receives swine fever free status

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has officially recognized Bulgaria as a "free of classical swine fever" state during the General Session of the Organization that was being held last week in Paris, France.

Bulgaria receives swine fever free status

Damyan Iliev, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, said that the granting of official status recognized by the OIE is of great importance for the economic development of Bulgaria.

In 2016, the European Commission adopted a decision allowing Bulgaria to trade live pigs within the European Union after having previously had more than 10 years of ban imposed over the control of classical swine fever.
