Canada gives $300,000 in financial assistance to Abattoir Zampini
The company plans to use the fund to build a new slaughter line for large animals, mainly cattle, over 30 months of age and cull cows. In addition, Zampini will also construct new animal receiving and holding areas and acquire new equipment.
Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay, and Lise Thériault, Quebec Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region, on behalf of the Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Laurent Lessard, made the announcement, confirming the two governments’ desire to ensure the sustainability and development of animal production sectors by promoting increased competitiveness of slaughterhouses and improved slaughter services in response to regional or sectoral needs.
"The Government of Canada is proud to help Abattoir Zampini inc. make its expansion project, which will increase Quebec’s large-animal slaughter capacity, a reality. Thanks to this investment, the company will create good, middle-class jobs while also helping the agriculture and agri-food sector in the Lanaudière region reach its full potential," Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, declared.
"Prosperity for businesses in the bio-food sector is a priority for our government. In this connection, the second direction, Feeding Our World, of Quebec’s 2018–2025 bio-food policy consists specifically of supporting investment in businesses to help them become prosperous, sustainable and innovative. This investment is also in line with our department’s desire to see businesses in the bio-food sector make $15 billion in investments by 2025," said Laurent Lessard, Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
"This project meets a regional need, since the supply of cull cattle to be slaughtered far exceeds the slaughter capacity of slaughterhouses in Lanaudière and the adjacent regions. By helping Abattoir Zampini inc. increase its productivity and become more competitive, the Government of Quebec is investing in the region’s economy and prosperity. That is excellent news for all Lanaudière residents," Lise Thériault, Quebec Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region, concluded.
