Chilean poultry exports are up by 20%
Chile has increased the poultry exports by 20% in the first three quarters of the year reaching a volume of 102,000 tonnes worth $292.5 million. China (25%) and the US (24%) are the main markets for Chilean poultry followed by Mexico (11%), Puerto Rico (11%), United Kingdom (9%), Germany (6%), Holland (4%) and Peru (2%).
At the same time, poultry imports have decreased by 6% reaching a volume of 88,000 tonnes worth $161 million, according to data released by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (ODEPA). The increase in exports was mainly driven by continuous demand from China who is confronted with a protein shortage created by the ASF situation in the country.
Also in the first 9 months of the year, Chile has increased pork imports by 51.3% to reach 71,000 tonnes. However, the country exports almost 150,000 tonnes of pork.
