Danish Crown ranks second in animal welfare top

The 8th annual report from Business Benchmark for Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) places Danish Crown on the second place in the global index comprising 150 companies in terms of political engagement, performance and openness about animal welfare in food businesses.
BBFAW 2019 reports that 60 percent of the world's leading food companies now have formal farm animal welfare policies as well as appropriate governance processes to ensure they are implemented effectively internally and through supply chains.

They believe that consumer interest in farm animal welfare, coupled with the positive momentum within a majority of the world's most influential food businesses, are key accelerators for these year to year changes. "The 2019 results show that BBFAW continues to be an important driver of change. An increasing number of companies are using the annual benchmark to continually improve farm animal welfare practices, performance and openness. However, it is clear that there is much more to be done if animal welfare is to be institutionalized throughout the global food industry," said Nicky Amos, CEO of The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare.
The business benchmark on farm animal welfare 2019, which analyzed 150 global food companies, supported by Compassion in World Farming and World Animal Protection, moves Danish Crown to the second-highest level in terms of its position on farm animal welfare.

"We are representing more than 6,000 farmers, so animal welfare is, of course, a core element of our strategy. A good business for us is based on good animal health and welfare, and this is a welcome recognition of efforts across the company to make improvements in this area," added Jais Valeur, CEO of the Danish Crown Group, after the release of the report.
