Danish Crown sees 20% absence at its largest slaughterhouse
Danish Crown is looking to mitigate a future manpower crisis, as the largest pig slaughterhouse owned by the company, in Horsens, has already been confronted with the lack of personnel in production. "The only bump in the road is at our largest slaughterhouse in Horsens, where our boning capacity is down by about 20%, because some of our Polish employees have chosen to stay home in this situation," says Per Laursen, Production Director at Danish Crown Pork.
The company reported that total absence at its factories is above normal at the beginning of the week. The assessment is that, first and foremost, a smaller group of foreign employees who have not met at work, and to a lesser extent sickness and some who have had to take time off to stay at home with their children.
To secure production in the coming weeks, Danish Crown is now calling on people who have previously worked at a slaughterhouse to sign up if they have the courage to lend a hand if additional manpower is needed. "Our regular employees are stuck, but we have to prepare for the fact that we may also be affected by illness, so we are taking this step now. In this way, we can hopefully ensure that we can maintain the production and supply of food," added Per Laursen.
