Egg exports in 2023 surpass the twelve months of the previous year

Surveys by the ABPA show that Brazilian exports of eggs (including fresh and processed products) totaled 11,950 thousand tons between January and May this year, a volume that surpasses by 93 .1% of the total exported in the same period last year, when 6,187 thousand tons were shipped.

Egg exports in 2023 surpass the twelve months of the previous year

In revenue, egg shipments totaled US$ 29.670 million between January and May, surpassing by 165.8% the result achieved in the same period of 2022, with US$ 11.164 million.

In just five months, international sales of eggs surpassed the total exported by Brazil in 2022, a period in which the country shipped 9,474 thousand tons. The same was seen in revenue, with a total record of US$ 22.4 million in the twelve months of last year.

In the month of May alone, Brazilian exports of eggs totaled 4,346 thousand tons, a volume 592% greater than the 628 tons shipped in the fifth month of 2022. In revenue, the increase is 429.4%, with US$ 10.069 million in May this year, against US$ 1.902 million in the same period last year.

"Maintaining the flow of trade and expanding associated markets is essential to reinforce the exporting position of the egg sector, which has been betting on the diversification of the portfolio of import clients", points out the director of markets at ABPA, Luis Rua.

The main destination for international sales of eggs from Brazil, Japan imported 4,980 thousand tons this year (January to May), surpassing by 1190% the total registered in the same period of 2022, with 386 tons. Next is Taiwan, with 3,594 thousand tons (in 2022, there were no shipments to the destination). Also noteworthy in the period were sales to the United States, with 458 tonnes exported (+83.2%).

"There was a redesign in the international sales of eggs from Brazil. Now, Japan and Taiwan occupy the lead among export destinations, accounting for more than 70% of the total shipped by Brazil this year. In addition to high value-added markets, they are destinations that also have high levels of sanitary requirements, which reinforces the international recognition of the quality of Brazilian products", assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
