Hong Kong to suspend poultry imports from Denmark

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced the local trade authorities to ban the import of poultry and meat products, including poultry eggs, from the Holstebro Municipality of Denmark.

Hong Kong to suspend poultry imports from Denmark

The CFS said this recommendation came in view of the notification received from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of low-pathogenic H5 avian influenza in the Holstebro Municipality of Denmark.

A CFS spokesman said that Hong Kong imported about 388 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 280 000 poultry eggs from Denmark in the first three months of this year.

"The CFS has contacted the Danish authorities over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the OIE on avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.
