Iran reports a 4% decline in its meat production
Beef and veal accounted for 52% of the country's total meat production, reaching an output of 223,000 tons, as reported by the Financial Tribune.
Lamb and mutton production followed with 162,000 tons, which accounted for 37.6% of the total meat production.
Iran produced 34,000 tons of goat meat in the mentioned period, which accounted for 7.8% of the total. While meat from other livestock reached 11,000 tons.
The Statistical Center of Iran announced that based on a survey from 2012, there were 380 official slaughterhouses operating throughout the country, which resulted in the slaughter of about 12 million livestock species.
Compared to the previous fiscal year, the country's meat production reported a decrease of 4%. The sheep and lamb production reported an 8% reduction, for goats the decline was 3%, for cattle and calves - 2%, for buffalo - 8%. Meanwhile, the production of camel meat increased by 37%.
