JBS enters the health and nutraceuticals market

JBS has begun production of collagen and gelatin peptides, entering into the health and nutraceuticals segments. The operation marks the launch of Genu-in, the new brand of JBS Novos Negócios, with an installation in Presidente Epitácio, in the interior of São Paulo.

The construction of the new 4.0 factory, the most modern in the sector in Brazil and the only 100% automated, required investments of around R$ 400 million. Genu-in uses bovine skin from the JBS production chain as input. This is one of the differentials of the new global company, as it acquires 100% of its raw material from a single source, a condition that guarantees control of the supply chain and production processes, uniformity and quality of the final product. The facility will have the capacity to produce 6 thousand tons per year of collagen peptides and 6 thousand tons per year of gelatin, and serve customers in different countries. In addition to technology, the plant also adopts the best sustainability practices in the sector.

The new business reinforces the circular economy front in JBS' global operation. The company transforms by-products from the processing of the beef, pork and poultry chains into high value-added products, such as leather, biodiesel, fertilizers, animal feed, pharmaceutical inputs, hygiene and cleaning materials, among others, sold in the Brazilian market and exported to dozens of countries.

"Collagen peptides are the protein of life, as they naturally activate the production of collagen in our body that we lose with age. They are present in products that guarantee health, quality of life and important care in people's routine. At Genu-in, its production is integrated into the JBS value chain, which guarantees safety, sustainability and reliability from beginning to end of the process", says Cláudia Yamana, director of Genu-in. The new company operates in the B2B market, focusing on the sale of peptides and gelatin for the food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries.
The company's first launch on the market is the collagen peptide Genu-in Life, an ingredient for the development of health and nutrition products that work to strengthen cartilage, tendons, muscles, bones and skin beauty. The component will be in the formulation of third-party brands that will reach the final consumer through the retail market.

Another company product that will hit the market at this first moment is the Genu-in Gel gelatin, which is used by the food industry (a key ingredient for the production of desserts, ice cream, confectionery) and pharmaceuticals in the development of medicine tablets and capsules.
