Meat consumption to reach 110 million tonnes in 2025

New consumption habits are changing the landscape of the global meat market but there are lots of opportunities to adapt and perform in the next years, says one IPCVA expert.
Jorge Torelli believes that the cattle and meat chain must implement new strategies to take advantage of the unbeatable panorama offered by the world markets in the medium and long-term.
To graph the evolution in the world consumption, he pointed out that in 2012 it was 60 million metric tons of meat (MTM) and that it is estimated that by 2025 that amount will rise to 110 MTM. "The challenge is a sustainable livestock production. The way to take advantage of this great opportunity is to just think forward and move in that direction ", he said.
Better productivity for producers must be accompanied by a closer look at the trends present in the market.
"The vast majority must rethink their role in the chain, as I have no doubt that changes are coming in the medium term and who is not prepared will probably disappear. We can place cuts that are highly valued in the domestic market and that have unbeatable prices and then choose from the different markets which are the best option. That way we will have a better purchasing power that will inevitably spill over the chain", added Torelli during a workshop with cattle producers from Argentine.
