Ministry of Agriculture establishes working group to strengthen sustainability in the Brazilian beef supply chain

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) established through Ordinance No. 898, the Sustainable Beef Working Group (GT) – Supply Chain, with the purpose of evaluating and proposing sustainable agricultural practices in the beef supply chain.

The working group aims to formulate proposals focused on promoting transparency, integrating public and private information, using official databases, as well as developing and applying traceability tools and sustainable agricultural practices throughout the beef supply chain.

The group is composed of representatives from the following units of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA): Executive Secretariat, Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, Secretariat of Rural Development, and Secretariat of Agricultural Policy. Representatives from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), and the Brazilian Association of Meat Processing Plants (Abrafrigo) are also part of the working group.

The Working Group is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and evaluating criteria, parameters, and deadlines for traceability policies and initiatives and sustainable agricultural practices applicable to the beef supply chain; proposing criteria for harmonizing the policies and initiatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) related to bovine traceability and sustainable agricultural production with other initiatives and technical parameters affecting the chain; promoting technical dialogue between the government, the financial sector, and the productive sector; and proposing financial solutions for the sector, with gains in efficiency and sustainability, aligned with the policies and initiatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture reinforces its strategic commitment to the Brazilian livestock sector by promoting integration between government, the productive and financial sectors, in pursuit of a more sustainable, traceable and competitive livestock industry.
