Modest increase in German pork production in Q1 2018

Germany's pork production has increased by 1.8% or 36,600 tons in the first three months of 2018 compared to the similar period from 2017, reaching 2.06 million tons, according to the data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) analyzed by ISN (Interessengemeinschaft der Schweinehalter Deutschlands e.V.).

Modest increase in German pork production in Q1 2018

Based on preliminary data from Destatis, nearly 14.54 million pigs were slaughtered in the first quarter of 2018. There was an increase of 0.6% during the mentioned period or 82,500 head more.

The ISN statement says that the increase resulted exclusively from domestic animals, of which with 13.64 million heads almost 200,000 came from local slaughterhouses.

The number of processed foreign pigs decreased by around 120,500 or more than 10% to 902,400. Slightly higher slaughterhouse weights increased by 0.8% to almost 1.38 million tonnes.
