Murcia's pork exports grew by 9% between January and August 2017

Murcia exported pig meat and products worth a record 140 million euros between January and August 2017, an increase of 9.1% compared to the similar period from 2016, according to Daniel de Miguel, director of INTERPORC.

Mr. De Miguel says that sales abroad have grown even more in volume, exceeding 57,300 tons in the first eight months of the year (+ 12.3%), which ranks Murcia as the sixth Spanish community for meat exports and pig products

Furthermore, the director of INTERPORC International has stressed that "the pig sector from this region is not only an important agent at the national level but also an increasingly prominent player in international trade, and today one in four kilos of products of the pigs from Murcia are destined for foreign markets ".

He pointed out that "Asia is the great foreign market of pig companies in Murcia, since China, with 40.8 million euros until August, and Japan, with 20.6 million, are its main destinations, followed by France (10.4 million) and Portugal (9.6 million). In terms of volume, sales to China (25,400 tons) and Japan (4,900 tons) also stand out.

Mr. De Miguel talked about the pig sector from Murcia while presenting the campaign 'Pork Lovers Tour', the largest traveling promotional action of the Spanish meat sector, in Lorca (Murcia), together with the president of the region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing, Francisco Jódar, the mayor of Lorca and president of SEPOR, Fulgencio Gil, and the representatives of the sector and the pig industry of Murcia.
