One seal for the benefit of all
The Spanish white pork sector keeps on moving forward in animal welfare, animal health and biosafety to offer products to the consumer which not only guarantee these aspects but also adapt to their increasing demands, respecting the environment and caring of the animals.
In order to do this, from the Spanish Inter-professional Agri-Food Organization for White Pork (INTERPORC) we have developed in recent years, together with a first-level Scientific Committee of experts in animal welfare the Animal Welfare and Biosafety Technical Regulation INTERPORC ANIMAL WELFARE SPAIN (IAWS). We have also submitted this Regulation to the consideration of the companies of the sector, certification bodies and animal rights organizations, who have provided their suggestions. Consequently, the certification has all the technical guarantees and the necessary agreement among all those involved in animal welfare.
The IAWS Technical Regulation adds to the legal requirements of the strict EU and national regulations, other more demanding in terms of animal welfare, animal health, prophylaxis, biosafety, handling and traceability and food safety.
Through the system of audits implemented by the authorized independent certification bodies, the IAWS certification obliges each and every one of the phases in the pork value of chain (farms, slaughterhouses and industry) as well as each productive phase (breeding, weaning and growing/finishing) to get the certificate so the product can reach the final consumer, thus guaranteeing traceability throughout the process. Therefore, this certification goes along with the “from farm to fork” strategy and with sustainability.
In this sense, "Welfare Commitment Certified" benefits all phases of the chain. Also, to retailers, by offering the meat and products of the white pork guaranteed with the highest quality, food safety and care for animals and the environment. In other words, with the highest level of protection for consumers, which inspires confidence and has a positive impact on reputation and sales.
And of course to consumers, making them participants of the work carried out by the pork sector, offering them clear and rigorous information on all the efforts that the sector carry out in the production of the food that reaches their tables and allows them to recognize that a product has been prepared with the highest guarantees by having detailed information on each of the processes and on each of the phases in the value of the chain.
