Portugal opens the Chilean market for poultry
Poultry producers from Portugal can now export fresh poultry meat to Chile, according to the office of the secretary of state for agriculture and food, Luis Medeiros Vieira. "With the Chilean market, the number of markets opened by this government has risen to 57, making it possible to export a total of 226 products (171 of animal origin and 55 of vegetable origin)", said the official.
In the first half of the year, the Portuguese exports of agri-food products registered a growth rate of 4.6% compared to the same period of 2018, informs The Portugal News.
For the next period, the European country intends to open 58 new markets for 270 agricultural products of which 224 are animal products and 46 are plant-based products.
Chile is a market with a potential 17 million consumers and estimated consumption of poultry of 705,000 tonnes for 2019, according to Statista.
