Sibiu Salami, one of Romania's famous brands celebrates 130 years
On 1st of November, Salam de Sibiu PGI (Sibiu Salami), one of Romania's notorious food brands celebrates 130 years since the product was created. Present at Indagra Food Show in Bucharest, Carmen Gavrilescu, president of the Association of Producers of Sibiu Salami, declared that the premium product if finding new markets and it could grow spectacularly if exported to Asia.
"This year we opened the markets in Spain and Italy. Of course, we think that Romanian expats in those countries will increase the sales, but there is also an interest from Europeans who find delicious our most renowned salami. Last year, we closed with a production of 2,100 tonnes. This year, we expect to grow at 2,400 tonnes of salami and 5% is the increase in exports.
Chinese and Japanese visitors of our booths in Spain and Italy also manifested interest in our product. If we can open those markets we can expect a consistent growth in production", declared Mrs Gavrilescu in an interview for EuroMeatNews.
Responding to new consumer habits, the Association presented a culinary demonstration of how can Sibiu Salami can be used in different recipes, aside from the basic sandwich snack.
