Spain's beef exports jump 17%
Last year, Spain has increased the volume of beef exported in the EU and third-countries with 32,000 tonnes (+17%), reaching a total of 222,000 tonnes, according to data released by Provacuno. The ascending trend is expected to continue this year as trade deals with Vietnam, Singapore and Japan will allow Spanish beef to have a larger exposure in Asia.
"This growth in exports coincides with the opening of important new markets in this period, such as Vietnam, Singapore and more recently Japan, and with the strong support that the sector and its companies devote to their export vocation," said the interprofessional organization.
According to Provacuno, the main destinations for Spanish beef are Portugal, Italy, France, and the Netherlands, in the EU; and Algeria, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Canada, as third countries.
39,000 tonnes of beef worth 131 million euros were exported last year to third-countries, marking an increase of 31% compared with 2018 figures.
