Uruguay: Lowest volume of sheep meat exports in 10 years

In the first 16 weeks of the year, exports, according to INAC data, reached their lowest volume in the last ten years, while the average price per ton was the highest. In other words, "what's scarce is expensive."

So far, exports total 3,582 tons carcass weight, with an average value of US$6,515, marking a 27% decrease in volume compared to last year and a 26% increase in average value. However, when comparing the average performance of both variables during the first 16 weeks of the year over the last decade, the exported volume is 37.5% lower, while the value per ton has increased by 40.5%.

However, reiterating the point made at the beginning that "what is scarce today is expensive," when we analyze the last ten years, we must say that "when there is a lot, little is paid." In this sense, 2023 is a clear example, where the export volume in the analyzed period exceeded 9,000 tons, but with an average value of US$3,853.
