Spain's meat production grew by 5.1%
In the first three quarters of this year, Spanish meat production increased by 5.1% compared to last year reaching reached 5,180,324 tonnes.
Of the total produced, pork is gradually gaining relevance. Thus, if in 2014 it was 61.9%, in 2018 it reached 64.7% in 2018 with 3.34 million tons, 5.9% more than in 2017. Considering this, in only 5 years Spain has increased its production of pork by 25%, reports Eurocarne magazine.
Poultry is the second sector with substantial growth (4.9%) but the white meat has lost its importance in the whole of the production, declining from 25% (2014) to 23.1% this year.
Catalonia stands out as the most productive region in pork, poultry and cattle, even if some other Spanish provinces have reported substantial growth in animal production: Valencia (beef - up by 8.1%), Castilla y Leon (pigs - up by 11.5%), Andalusia (poultry - up by 14%), Aragon (sheep - up by 20%).
