Trade and food promotion impacted by the coronavirus outbreaks
It is not only exporters that are hit by coronavirus but also promoters of food and trade fair organizers. In the last couple of weeks, two major events were canceled or delayed due to outbreaks reported in different parts of the world.
Japan Management Association, the organizer of FOODEX JAPAN 2020, has officially taken the decision to cancel the event, originally scheduled to be held at Makuhari Messe from March 10 - 13, 2020.
This decision has been made based on the announcement of the Japanese government on February 26th. The Japanese government requests event organizers to cancel huge events held in Japan to prevent further infection from the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In Greece, organizers of the Food Expo trade fair decided to move the event, initially scheduled in March, to 16-18 May in order to avoid any new coronavirus outbreaks. "The surge in cases of the new Covid-19 strain of coronavirus in Greece together with announcement from the Greek Ministry of Health regarding the cancellation of all outdoor meetings and events in the country, have created exceptional and unforeseen conditions that make the successful outcome of the upcoming FOOD EXPO trade show incredibly precarious," announced the organizers.
Two other shows, Alimentaria Barcelona (20-23 April) and Interpack (Dusseldorf, 7-13 May) are still on course but any change in Spain and Germany may lead to the cancellation or the delay of these events.
