Turkey increases red meat production in the second quarter
For the period April-June, Turkey reports an increase of red meat production of 2.2% compared to the same period of last year and by 5.1% from the previous quarter. The amount produced by slaughterhouses stood at 161,414 tonnes from a total of 266,330 tonnes, according to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute.
Cattle meat production is estimated at 235,901 tonnes, an increase of 6.4% from the previous quarter and by 2.9% when compared to the same period last year. Sheepmeat has registered a small increase in production compared to the first quarter of 2018 (1.1%) but the volume of 27,337 tonnes stands for a significant growth (22.7%) when confronted with the figures reported in QII 2017.
