UAE suspends poultry imports from Russia
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) decided to restrict the access of domestic and wild live birds and poultry meat after receiving a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that made reference to an outbreak of H5N2 bird flu in the central region of Kostromskaya Oblast.
Reuters reports that the recent Avian Influenza (AI) outbreak has led to the death of over 660 thousand birds.
The ban regards only the affected region and previously infected provinces Respublika Kalmykia, Astrakhanskaya Oblast and Kostromskaya Oblast in Russia.
However, UAE will still allow the import of thermally treated poultry products – meat and eggs – from all parts of Russia.
