Argentine closed the last outbreak in commercial poultry and declared itself a free country of HPAI

After more than 28 days have elapsed since the completion of the depopulation tasks, which includes the final disposal and cleaning and disinfection of the affected farms, the closure of the last of the 18 HPAI outbreaks in commercial establishments registered in the territory was achieved. Likewise, since June of this year, no new outbreaks have been detected in poultry, according to the applied epidemiological surveillance.

In this sense, the document prepared by Senasa's National Directorate of Animal Health (DNSA) describes the measures adopted since the confirmation of the first outbreak in February 2023, the slaughter and disinfection actions, and the epidemiological surveillance carried out, which support the free country status according to Article 10.4.6 of the WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

It should be noted that the self-declaration of a country free of HPAI before the WOAH will be communicated to each of the export destinations of poultry merchandise from Argentine, in order to know the position of each of the countries and advance in the corresponding negotiations.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo highlighted "the articulation with the productive sector and the provincial and national institutions, promoted by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, so that Argentine can recover epidemiological stability after almost 6 months from the first detection on poultry farms.
