Bolivia completes sanitary protocol for exporting leather to Germany
The National Service of Agricultural Health and Food Safety (Senasag) concluded the sanitary protocol that enables the export of Bolivian bovine leather to the German market, after strengthening the sanitary control, certification and traceability systems required by the European Union.
According to the entity, the exports will be carried out under the technical supervision of SENASAG, guaranteeing compliance with the health and quality regulations required by Germany, considered one of the most demanding markets internationally.
This advance allows Bolivian bovine leather to be positioned as a reliable and competitive product in foreign trade.
The health protocol is the result of technical work aimed at adapting national processes to European standards, which opens new opportunities for the leather production chain and strengthens Bolivia's presence in high-value international markets.
According to Senasag, headed by its executive director Ronny Salvatierra, the institution is making progress in opening certified markets aligned with international requirements, in coordination with the Ministry of Productive, Rural and Water Development, with the aim of boosting national producers and promoting non-traditional exports.
Data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals that, on average, the country generates over US$12 million in revenue from bovine leather exports. Countries such as the United States, Mexico, and Italy account for the majority of the demand.
However, in 2025 the country managed to open the Chinese market for exports to a territory that demands almost 2 million tons annually. Nevertheless, data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows that exports to that country did not achieve the expected results.
Now, although Senasag has finalized the sanitary protocol, this does not mean that exports will begin immediately, as Germany still needs to verify the processes and approve the arrival of Bolivian products. However, this progress allows Bolivian producers and companies to begin forging alliances with the German market.
